You can see what's going on? What's going on? What's going on? Good morning, once again, this is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. In just a second, I'm going to have our service officer, Tony Marshall to give us a rundown on what's going on in his world. In fact, I'll go ahead and I'll do my announcements, because Tony is actually at a convention. And I wanted to give him an opportunity to give an update. Tony, what you got going on, sir.
Tony 1:17
All right, Dan. Yeah, good to talk with you. Good to be on radio this afternoon. Right now, as your service officer in Las Vegas in the Las Vegas area, I just want you to know that I've just opened up a new office at the Veteran Resource Center in North Las Vegas on East Centennial drive, or two days a week. And that's basically an all day things being there from 10 until three in the afternoon. So give us a little more time, as well as continuing on at the American Legion Post 10 On Thursdays and Fridays from one o'clock to five o'clock. So that gives you guys that need to get your claim processed a little more flexibility and when you can get it done. Oh, that's great. Also, I just want to mention real quick that any of you guys that served in the Desert Storm, rack, anything dealing with the burn pits, none of that these are presumptive diseases that are available for you to process right now. And also for our veterans of Vietnam. Of course, the agent orange diseases are still presumptive, and you need to get started on those claims. Do not hesitate. Let's get that done. We have a little extra time now. So let's use it.
Unknown Speaker 2:45
Excellent. Well, Tony once again, so you say you your two days a week at an office from 10 to three down in North Las Vegas. Get that again for us, please.
Tony 2:56
Yeah, the North Las Vegas veteran and Resource Center which sits right next to the YMCA on East Centennial Parkway. In North Las Vegas. It's right right next to the YMCA on East Centennial in North Las Vegas, that's 3090 East Centennial Parkway, North Las Vegas. And if you need it, if you need to get in touch with me, let me lay my number out there for you 123013015379465. Just give me a call. And we'll get to see if we can get you all set up for an appointment so we can get this business done. Hey,
Unknown Speaker 3:36
Tony, I appreciate it as short as it was. It's good information. You've given us something that we weren't aware of. And that's the two days that you will be down in North Las Vegas. Thanks, Tony. Have a good conference, man. See you soon. All right. All right. This is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. And we just had a brief discussion with Tony Marshall. He's our service officer. He's doing some great things. So those of you who need help, please reach out to Tony. And I wanted to get him on because he had to get back into a meeting while he's upstate in a conference. So Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. I'll give a couple of quick announcements if you will, before I go into my second guest, which is businessman Kenny Beeman. The black firefighters in Southern Nevada they have a monthly mixer that they have I forget the actual name of the place that they're having this function but you can contact Captain Lionel Newby and if you call the department, they will get you hooked up with him because I don't want to give his number over the air without his approval. So with that, of once again they do a monthly function a mixer so the public will get to know who the many members are. And also want to say EDI, the car homes executive development institute just called This session last week and we were once again did a great job. It was a 32nd year down at Deloitte University. We had over 170 students to attend this year. Last year, I think we were right around 138 140. So we're pleased with the continued growth, particularly after the pandemic that folks are coming back for that in class, studying it up in close personal studying that we do. And the training that we delve out at Dillard University. One of the things I want to mention real quickly is Sutton, Sam Smith, he may have a an opportunity to become a coach at our local community college. So let's pray for that brother, that he will get a resume in and maybe get an interview. But all things are possible. Through prayer, we know that there has been a number of individuals who came out of the Running Rebels who have not gotten an opportunity here locally. So let's let's push for that. With that. We'll take a brief break and see you on the other side with businessman Kenny Beeman. This is Veterans Affairs plus on any 1.5 Jazz and more than Dave Washington, your hosts.
Unknown Speaker 6:16
Good morning, once again, this is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5 Jazz and as we started out after I spoke with Tony Marshal, our service officer, I spoke a little bit about EDI, the Carl Holmes executive development institute. Just want to go into a little bit more detail. We were actually on the campus of Dillard. From June 5 to ninth that was our classroom, both morning, afternoon and evening sessions. And I want to talk about real quickly and we've had him on the show in this. William Spike Jones, Deputy Fire Chief retired out of St. Louis. He gave a book review on Tuesday night, and he got rave reviews, because he just gave an indication of some of the things that occurred with into him during his 30 plus year career with the St. Louis Fire Department. But well appreciate it. And anyone interested in that book, particularly you guys who out there in the service or been in the fire service, not only the military, I will get that information to you. But Spike Jones, great program he put on for the book that he's written the fire within his call. And then on Wednesday night, we had Gary breeze. He's the director of the Colorado Fire Chiefs Association, new strategies and innovations he just talked about, talk to us about some of the things that we at the Carl Holmes executive development institute should be embarking upon to include seeking out sponsorships by some of the major manufacturers of fire equipment, etc. So we will be pursuing that. And we have pursued some of those things. And like I said to him to Gary and the listening audience, the student body at our evening session that we don't want everyone's money, because sometimes people you get money from them, they want to control you. And that was one of the pet peeves of Dr. Cole Holmes, one of the cofounders of this organization that we're not gonna just take anybody's money so they can attempt to try to tell us how to run our our business at the car homes executive development institute. Oh, and I must say that I met the president, Dr. Ford, outstanding young woman who was the new president has not been president of Dillard University for no more than maybe 810 months. But she she's very welcoming. In fact, she was the first president in 21 years on that campus to actually come to our orientation and actually spoke and then she came to graduation. And we were just pleased to have her to come and be amongst the students and she also put me in contact with their alumni association person. And I failed to I don't recall her name offhand. But I will meet be making contact because our goal is to become looked upon as alumnus of the Dillard University, if you will as as a special summer institute program, with the Carl Holmes executive development institute. This once again is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. And our next guest is businessman Kenny Beeman. Hey Kenny.
Unknown Speaker 9:37
Hey, how's it going?
Unknown Speaker 9:38
Everything's going well going will give us a little bit of background on yourself, if you will.
Unknown Speaker 9:45
As far as myself, from my small time from Alabama was for a town called Andalusia, Alabama.
Unknown Speaker 9:52
What is it calling and
Unknown Speaker 9:54
the loser like in Spain but the southern was Andalusia. Okay? Yeah. Well, I didn't have enough money to go to college. So I sought all the ways of being so I joined the Air Force and stayed there for 24 years. Yes, yes. Yes did do. Desert Storm war thing. Came on out of there, got married to my beautiful wife and we opened up a business here in Las Vegas locally called Pandora's burgers and catering. And they got it. We persevered through the COVID years, but we've become synonymous, what I are community, they really supported us. And so we we just hit our fifth year. So that's where are we at
Unknown Speaker 10:45
today? Wow, five years, our time flies as they say. So yes, it does. Yes. What was your job while in the military?
Unknown Speaker 10:53
While I was in the military, I did too. Toolbar positions as I was an aircraft mechanic or the F 16. And yeah, that became a little taxing because you had to be out there doing all the weather, inclement weather, whether it's hot or cold, or whatever.
Unknown Speaker 11:09
It is kind of like firefighters man, you have to be there to get it done.
Unknown Speaker 11:14
Yes. And I made a video those are my days. But you know what aircraft fires do a whole lot of different types of chemicals. As far as expensive, you know, extinguisher those things. So I've always wanted to become a fireman. But my lifestyle just didn't leave me that way.
Unknown Speaker 11:29
So but aircraft mechanic, what was the other one? You said? Yeah, two different positions.
Unknown Speaker 11:33
I did I jumped out of the frying pan into the fire. I became an air traffic controller. Why would I want to do that? As far as aircraft so that yeah, that was my career.
Unknown Speaker 11:45
Wait a minute, Kenny. You were air traffic control?
Unknown Speaker 11:49
Yes, sir. Air traffic control. Yeah,
Unknown Speaker 11:51
how long? How long do you do that?
Unknown Speaker 11:54
I did that for the remainder of 18 years. I spent 12 years as a crew chief for the aircraft there that went with the last 13 or 12 I'm sorry, 12 years as a air traffic controller. Wow,
Unknown Speaker 12:09
I had no idea you know, that is a it's like in the fire service. I dispatchers and I know your your level of stress is even higher. But I can tell you that you know what little I know about that. It is a very very high stress position because you you got the lives of many many people under your your guide if you will, dealing with the planes etc. And those folks who are actually you know, passengers on this plane air traffic control be doggone
Unknown Speaker 12:39
Yes. Yeah. As I as you see jeebus while having the hair today, so everything you like especially that one was there, but you know, it's all bored me the guy but you know, we're here we are. Right right road has led me to other Devers in life. So that's, you know, I'm not complaining. But it's been good. So been a great ride. Now,
Unknown Speaker 13:03
you mentioned that you and your wife have a business? Tell the listening audience a little bit about it. And where are you going? And what's the what's the plans for the future?
Unknown Speaker 13:14
Oh, we are. We started from the ground real estate, we started pushing this product. It's called Pandora's burgers. And we started out in the US just going to concerts doing concerts and different different aspects of phases, I bought out setting on the side, we never really had a food truck, it tasted out of thing. We just, we just did different events. And the word got out, people started inquiring as to when you're going to open a brick and mortar. So with that, as of July 18, as I stated previously, we had our ups and downs, as you know, with any business started out but like I said, Do the surrounding communities we've we've got putting down our products is great. People are learning more about us. And the biggest thing is we were getting that support though people are coming from industry, just because of the product that we have. So that's and you stated where we're going, where we're looking at open up the second location, just be those to us at this point. This is where really where we leave it to us or where we're going to.
Unknown Speaker 14:24
So you haven't selected a location but you do know that you want to branch out and have another location.
Unknown Speaker 14:30
We did have one but it just didn't follow through. As I tell the wife all the time, whenever we're ready, God will give us that and we we wanted to buy the Allegiant stadium but they just didn't work out as we planned. So we were moving on to other devas. Looking at another place as
Unknown Speaker 14:49
well with regard to that. I stated on last week's show about the fact that it appears as though we will be getting a baseball team In here, and with the stadium that they're going to build, I just hope that we get in our community black community in particular, we get something out of it, that overall effort, because, once again, I know that they've taken lots of tax dollars, think of 750 million to build the Allegiant stadium and what, it's just as my position unless somebody corrects me, and tells me that I'm wrong, but they're gonna have to show me a number, which is something that I've been trying to get for quite some time. You can we get the numbers from an ethnic and gender standpoint of who has concessions at the stadium, who has vendor opportunities, and actually who helped to build in terms of numbers. And I have yet to get that information, but I'm gonna keep harping on it. And some people telling me, you need to let that go, you have to let it go. Soon as they tell me and people have encouraged me to use it was the Information Act? I forget the the actual, yes, freedom of information.
Unknown Speaker 16:01
I was so glad that you're pushing that agenda. But that's, that's
Unknown Speaker 16:06
Kenny, I did look at that. But that's a lot of work to to file, that freedom of information ag deal. And I'm like, man, they got the information to share with the public. And we can all move along. And people encouraged me to move along. But I just think that when there's something that needs to be said or done, someone has to stand and at least say we need to have this information shared with our public because if it wasn't public dollars, and they're like, what's the gentleman who has a hockey team? I forget his name but he did it me and Frank caucus was talking the other day he did it with his own money. So when you got your own money, you get to do what you want to do. But when using part of my money, and our money as taxpayers, oh, we should have an opportunity and you should be obligated to let us know what's going on. So so much for me harping on that look tell us about your product there at Pandora's burger.
Unknown Speaker 17:06
I totally agree with your chief I hope that you remain with that just because us as far as business but we're locked out of a lot of those things and that's what we would love to get into and again I told him I totally agree with you and as far as the products that we have our products are on right now we're pushing our seasoning right now that we just came out with that we're putting on our website WWE dot Pandoras burbage.com really that yeah, that we is just one of our new products that we're that we actually use with with all of our meats and foods and goods here and some of our specialties that we use it on which would be our hamburgers, as well as our fish and our specialty items such as oxtails all that the season is good for anything that that you use on your within your cooking I will say any type of vegetables are easy you know so we we've been pushing it for a while that we're proud of finally brought it to the market.
Unknown Speaker 18:09
Great I had no idea Yeah, they're going on. So yes. As
Unknown Speaker 18:14
you say teach traffic to other streams of revenues and that is teaches how to lock a sign up.
Unknown Speaker 18:19
What's your what's your days of operation, and hours or days
Unknown Speaker 18:23
or hours operations and where photo buddy for restocking Tuesday through Saturday 11 Seven. Our local location is 3131 West Craig Road Suite 110 and we're located over dos Las Vegas, Nevada. There's only one pair doors
Unknown Speaker 18:41
and soon to be we're gonna we're gonna speak it into fruition you're gonna have a second location somewhere
Unknown Speaker 18:48
yeah, well we would love to get to that at the stadium as you just mentioned but like I said we I call it ever warfare that's what we're doing. We're gonna write it till we get there.
Unknown Speaker 18:57
No, that's excellent. Now your wife has has a tremendous following. Now would it and I guess I should have her own as a guest sometime. What does she get her develop her craft or skill as a as a person who can show enough burn? My wife loves that spaghetti she puts together Oh yes
Unknown Speaker 19:23
yes sir. Her have crafted her skills coming from her. Her descendants so they are all away from the deep roots of Louisiana. I when I say the deep roots the bays that I can't even call for down bro bridge Lafayette all those are her ancestors all over was just back in the day. So she they have Believe it or not. They have actual cookbook that has been passed down through the ages really along with Oh, yes, along with the aunties. They've just perfected the craft and that's what she gets her focus It's still ongoing.
Unknown Speaker 20:02
Very interesting, I had no idea. So they pass down the cookbook. And I guess, you guys, they pretty much hang on to those recipes, as April does with it with our tea cakes that she's got things she got it from, from Mauritius, or somewhere down in, in in sticks. And they will not give up. In fact, they keep thinking about expanding and doing things. But once it's done, you got to get that recipe up. And I keep telling her that she's got to figure out a way to mass produce. That is a that is a downfall because sometimes I haven't seen my firstborn I firstborn, so tired, you know, from doing that thing, and you know, I guess renting out different spaces as far as what he called him. Kitchens. Yes.
Unknown Speaker 20:47
I mean, we actually have our products here. And our products sells out every week, because this becomes a lot of us. A lot of people have ever heard of tea cakes, but right we give them a story behind it all that they just saw out there. Like, oh, we got to keep them stack.
Unknown Speaker 21:05
Hey, this is interesting me into that whole cookbook deal. I think that's fascinating. And I have heard stories about us as people. And we have these different recipes that, that we've that have come down through the line, the lineage of the family, and it's a good thing to to hang on to them because the value is in the food man. And like I say, when we I love Yeah, I'm a turkey burger person. And I love your burger. And it is it is a meal indeed. A meal indeed. So as far as your location there, you and you mentioned earlier that people even come as far as innocent to support what you do in here as a business.
Unknown Speaker 21:50
Absolutely, absolutely. As far as his head and the for this I've seen yet has been lost. And we got a dedicated law for the crew that comes up every Sunday for the Sunday. So so that's really encouraging that just you know, it's a blessing at the same time, let let us know that we are going in the right direction.
Unknown Speaker 22:10
So Sundays you say that's a specialty day. So what give us our listening audience an indication of kinds of things that are on the menu on a Sunday. Oh,
Unknown Speaker 22:21
this was created from the wife, of course quest where they're from Louisiana. Every Sunday, they would sit down and have a Sunday meal. No Sunday meals are comprised of different things these Sunday. So here's what our staples are on details that we cook. We do braised beef short ribs, smothered pork chops, smothered chicken, barbecue ribs that just are so onslaught of things that we do. It just depends on how we feel. And certainly the major changes so and she prepared. She She doesn't prepare it anymore, but she's overseeing it now. So, but that is what is comprised of the changes weekly. You need to call us anytime you want to know we've got their business Dobby posted online, every Tuesday, every Tuesday where as you'll see what we're preparing for the day for this upcoming Sunday.
Unknown Speaker 23:18
So how do we get to the online?
Unknown Speaker 23:22
Online with where WW dot just says it's fail? Pandora's burgers.com Okay. Yep, there is a you can't miss it. You'll plug it in and it'll bring us right up.
Unknown Speaker 23:35
Well you to our listening audience out there veterans and others. If you want to know what's coming up on the Sunday special meals, just hit that website and you get the menu. That's great.
Unknown Speaker 23:52
Cheap if they don't get it that way, we actually advertised when we were 5.7 they will be with them for years, and they're really pushing us out toward the airport. They don't really advertise that video as well on a daily basis. They run our ads, I think six or seven times a day. Who is this?
Unknown Speaker 24:13
One Oh 5.71051 5.7 Okay. All right. Well, I certainly wish you guys the absolute best as you continue to work your business and we'll certainly keep you in prayer and certainly your wife and daughter that her health continues to to get better and and must be doing pretty good. And she's back there supervising and making sure that they those in the kitchen are doing it right. Well, yes. Kenny is a pleasure to have you on the show. We appreciate the service that you provided in your years with the Air Force and, and well, air traffic controller who would have thought oh, hey into our listening audience. The young man can play some music too. I didn't you He's he's playing. He, we got another DJ that we, that we use more frequently. But when he comes down, he throws down, say, Well,
Unknown Speaker 25:11
geez, I want to, I want to thank you. I felt privileged, I want you to continue to keep fighting for small people. Because believe it or not, there's a lot of us out there to depend on your Digi me. Thank you.
Unknown Speaker 25:24
Take it as you give it I received that. So any closing remarks as we close out and I'll come back on the other side with a few more remarks. But anything you'd like to say as we close?
Unknown Speaker 25:36
I would like to thank you for this opportunity to everyone come on out and try and give us a try. As DJ thought would say, once you try this, you will take the later so
Unknown Speaker 25:48
ladies and gentlemen vich is out it was Kenny Beeman. businessman he and his wife, Pandora have Pandora's burgers out on Craig row. Thank you, Kenny. This is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. And I'll be back with a couple of remarks. Once again, good morning, Las Vegas. This is Veterans Affairs plus on 91.5, jazz and more. It's certainly a pleasure to serve you guys with the show. And if you have any information that you'd like to share with us that that's good for our veterans like, I know Sue Phillips has been on the show several times. We've had Mr. Ross, Brian from UNLV. He's with the they have a military branch or department that he does a lot of work for veterans. So we'll get him back on the show. And one of my interests, we had Dr. Fane on a couple of weeks ago. And my goal is to make contact with her and see if we can get the president on before she I know she leaves at the end of the month. And we want to, once again, thank you for the wonderful thing she's always done. She stood tall for our community. And we appreciate this young lady so much and hope that she stays around because we need good people to stay in our community and continue the great work. Even though there will be no payment dock as as you will leave you would exit your position as as a VP and assistant, Special Assistant to the President. Look, I want to mention Tony Marshall, again, he's our service officer. You can reach him at 301-537-9465. Tony's down at the post American Legion Post in at Doolittle and Eighth Street. He's there on Thursdays and Fridays from one to five. And then he has a new location down in North Las Vegas near the YMCA. And he said he's down there two days a week from 10am to 3pm. That's Tony Marshall, our service officer, Tony's doing a great job, he continues to work for the people. So make sure you make some contact with him if you have some particular need. And with that, I'm going to sign off until next month. And we appreciate, again, spread the word. And do know that if you miss the show, you can go to your Google search and put in Veterans Affairs. Plus, it'll come right up and you can catch any of the shows that we've had previously. So we want to thank all the staff and the general manager here. Mr. Really, for allowing that to happen for us. I don't know how it occurred, but we certainly appreciate it because I got a lot of friends that if they missed the show to include my own children, that won't get up at 7am Russ West rather, and listen to the show. I'll catch you later. So that's that's a nice little two week we have in the toolbox. So thank you once again and we look forward to having the show for you next month.
